David Holmgren on Future Scenarios and Solutions

Nicole Foss and David Holmgren - Survive and Thrive - National Speaking TourCo-founder of permaculture and inductee to the Green Lifestyle Awards Hall of Fame in 2014, David Holmgren, will be delivering an evening lecture in Canberra on Tuesday 9 December 2014 entitled ‘Future Scenarios and Solutions”.

This is a unique opportunity to hear David’s views on creatively responding to a future that involves progressively less and less available energy. David will reveal how understanding the potential interaction between Climate Change and Peak Oil and using a scenario-based planning model can empower those committed to ecological values and social justice to be effective in their quest to create the world we want, rather than just resist the world we don’t want.

David Holmgren is best known as the co-originator with Bill Mollison of the permaculture concept following the publication of Permaculture One in 1978.

Permaculture is described as consciously designed landscapes which yield an abundance of food, fibre and energy for local needs. The original permaculture vision of permanent agriculture has evolved to one of permanent or sustainable culture.

Future Scenarios: How communities can adapt to Peak Oil and Climate ChangeWithin the international and growing permaculture movement, David is respected for his commitment to presenting permaculture ideas through practical projects and teaching by personal example, that a sustainable lifestyle is a realistic, attractive and powerful alternative to dependent consumerism.

His book, Permaculture: Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability, has been a significant influence on the development of transition initiatives around the world.

More recently his Future scenarios work has seen him recognised as a significant thinker on an ‘energy descent future’.
