Broad-headed Snake
Hoplocephalus bungaroidesFamily: Elapidae (Elapid snakes, about 60 species in Australia, about 300 species in the world) Size: 0.9 metres Distribution: Broad-headed snakes only live within a small area of NSW from about Sydney, south to about Nowra, and west to and within the Blue Mountains. Status: They were once much more common, especially in Southern Sydney, though there are far fewer of the now due to collecting of snakes, and urban developments. Habitat: References: Wilson and Swan. About the Broad-headed SnakeThese are often mistaken for small diamond pythons (diamond pythons are much more common). Danger: Not severely dangerously venomous, but they are venomous and potentially dangerous.
